TRAFFIC organization
TRAFFIC is the world’s largest wildlife trade monitoring program. It is especially active in Taiwan, Ecuador, Kenya, Malawi, Vietnam, Russia, Tanzania, Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States. TRAFFIC monitors, investigates, analyzes the impact of illegal trade. They then develop recommendations, communicate results, and seek to promote action. An undercover survey by TRAFFIC of shops in New York City and San Francisco found that some illegal products made from endangered species are still being traded. These include products from Tigers, Rhinos, Leopards, Musk Deer, and many other threatened species.
TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild plants and animals is not a threat to the conservation of nature.
TRAFFIC works in co-operation with the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES).
TRAFFIC is a joint programme of WWF and IUCN-The World Conservation Union.
